Chevy 4500 Tow Truck Custom Roof Rack

13 04 2011

A customer came in with a Chevy 4500 tow truck. We wanted to install the easiest system to use. We also want a base rack system that can handle the weight. We decieded to go with a Thule base rack system. We used Thule Tk14′s430 tracker II footpack, 65″ Load bars, and lock cylinders 544. This is a versitile roof rack that we attach directly to sheet metal. This rack can hold 165lbs! Most factory roof racks can hold around 100lbs. This rack happens to be a quick disconnect tower.

594xt Side Arms

In the picture above we installed 3 wheel on bike carriers. The Thule 594xt Side Arm , this is Thules most stable wheel on bike racks. Thules side arm is very easy to get bikes on and off. It really takes you under a minute to load and unload most every bike on the road. The quick disconnect feature on the base rack system is also very easy to use. At the press of a button you can totally remove your base rack from your car, leaving behind the TK14′s (which are attached to the sheet metal.) Here at Rack Attack we are the rack experts. We sell and install Thule,Yakima,Whispbar, and Prorack. We Do stock all items! Dodge 2500 Truck rack

10 03 2011

Here at Rack Attack we can practically put a rack on anything. A customer came in with some old Yakima base rack Components, Control towers, Landing Pad 6 , 66inch cross bars, lock cores and a Yakima Skybox 16. We then discussed where this rack was going to go. We can mount racks directly onto the sheet metal above the cab, or we can drill through the bed. On a raised 2500 a cargo box on top of the cab will stick out quite a bit. So the customer decided the best way to go was in his bed. So this is when I got to work.  We discuss what he is going to be hauling to help me determine where I will place the rack. Cargo boxes, Skis and Snowboards, Bikes. By knowing that i determined a great spot to place his Base Rack. The Install is very simple. We attach the landing Pad 6′s straight through his truck rails. Then use Silicon to prevent water damage and rust. Next we attach the Control Towers and Cross bars. An hour later his truck is equipped with a base rack system that can hold around 165 Pounds! More than any factory base rack.

Mitisbishi Evo Yakima Rack, Car Rack

5 03 2011

We have outfitted this Evo with a Yakima Track System. We used mostly Yakima Parts. This particular customer wants to use his base rack system for Ski’s and snowboards. This rack happens to be a quick release tower and by that I mean the towers can be clicked off of the roof and stored, leaving behind the Landing Pad 1s and the track (tp54). We first start by installing the track to the sheet metal. We then silicon down the hardware we install into the roof, this prevents leaks and rust. We then attach the Landing Pads which holds the control towers onto the the rack. With this rack we also used 48″ cross bars. Our next step is adding lock cylinders to prevent theft. Our last step is adding the ski carrier, the fat cat 6. This particular ski rack only stand 4.5″ tall off of the bar. This rack also has a wind fairing. By adding a fairing your base rack system will be noticeably quiet on your car.

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX Yakima Ski Rack

18 01 2010

Subaru’s are very popular vehicles, and quite a few Subaru owners are avid outdoors people, who love to kayak, bike, ski and board.  So having a roof rack almost goes hand in hand with these cars.  One downfall, most Subaru’s do not have a metal frame around the door where the glass window touches the frame of the car.  Which means with the clip into the door options, the fit has to be precise so that not to have wind noise through the door or possible damage to weather striping.  Plus the clip options are very tedious to remove and re-install.  Don’t fret Rack Attack has your solution.  What you see above is a very popular option for all subaru owners.  We install Yakima Landing Pad 7′s permanently to the roof, then we use Yakima control towers that are quick release.  With this option you avoid any contact with your windows and door seals, so no possibility of wind noise through the door or damage to the weather striping.  You can also remove the whole rack system from the car in seconds for saving on fuel economy or going through the car wash, you will just be left with 4 little mounts.

Once the base system is installed you get a carrying capacity of 100lbs, and the possibility to add accessories to carry everything from water-sport products, to bikes, to skis and boards and more.  On this particular system our customer went with a 44″ yakima fairing to reduce wind noise, and a Yakima Fat Cat 6 ski rack / 4 board. The fat cat line is yakima’s newest and best ski carrier on the market.  The 6 pair carrier has 5″ more space than any other 6 pair ski rack on the market to accommodate the newer fat skis, also in the closed position it only sits 3 3/4″ off the top of the crossbar, making it the lowest profile ski rack on the market as well.  Lower profile = Less wind resistant = Better fuel economy.  These base systems can be professionally installed at any of our locations, or we do sell the kits for do it your selfers.  Many body shops will also do the installation for you if you are not up for it and are too far away from one of our stores.

2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid Roof Ski Rack

18 01 2010

Hybrid SUV’s are fast becoming one of the most popular vehicles on the road today.  Many of these Hybrids do not come with a roof rack, this is in order to achieve the best fuel economy.   But hey, just because you want to have great fuel economy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the ability to carry some gear on top of the vehicle.  This particular Hybrid Tahoe has our custom track installation with quick-release 430 tracker II towers.  We have laid down Thule 42″ Tracks, very similar to factory tracks that many vehicles come with.  Thule TK1 mounts are then inserted into the tracks, these are adjustable forward and back, and fairly easy to remove from the track if needed.  The 430 Towers click on and off the TK1 mounts in seconds.  This is an advantage in the aspect you can pop on and off the rack very quickly for saving on your fuel economy or going through the car wash.  These base systems can be professionally installed at any of our locations, or we do sell the kits for do it your selfers.  Many body shops will also do the installation for you if you are not up for it and are too far away from one of our stores.  Once the base rack is on there, you are ready to carry boats, skis, cargo, bikes, you name it.  These systems will be rated to carry 165lbs of weight.

On this particular application we have a Thule 6 pair ski carrier/4 board rack, but again any accessory can be added to the roof rack for all your sporting needs.

Thule 91726 Pull Top Sliding Ski and Snowboard Rack

30 11 2009

The Thule 91726 Pull Top Ski and Snowboard rack is the only ski carrier that allows you to load and unload your ski equipment off the side of your vehicle.  Nobody likes to have to lean against their dirty car to get that last pair of skis or snowboards, dirtying up that nice jacket.  With this carrier you don’t have to,  pop open the rack, flip the lever and slide the ski carrier out, load up the skis or snowboards, slide it back and you’re ready to go.  It is also fantastic for those larger SUV’s where the height of the vehicle makes it a challenge to get onto the roof.  It doesn’t matter if you are 5 foot or 6 foot, this ski carrier will make your mountain experience all that much better.  The Thule 91726 Pull Top Ski and Snowboard rack comes with universal mounting hardware, it will attach directly to almost any factory crossbar or yakima or thule bars right out of the box.  It has capacity to carry up to six pairs of skis or four snowboards, or a combination of both.  Check out the video below and see just how easy the Pull Top really is.

Rack Attack guarantees the lowest price, and has the fastest shipping, over 90% of our orders ship within 1 business day, we even have expedited shipping if you need something in a rush.

28 10 2009

Audi A4 Avant 2009 w TK14s RB43s 003The 2009 Audi A4 Avant is one of the most popular new cars in Colorado.  Rack Attack is proud to have one of the first fits for it.  Both Thule and Yakima systems are available for this vehicle and both companies offer a liftime warranty on their products.   We are excited about these systems for this vehicle.  This photo shows a Thule Rapid Aero bar set up with permanently installed base (Thule TK14 Tracker Kit 14 ) behind the roof rail with quick release towers (Thule 430R Rapid Tracker Foot Pack ).  The system is one of the easiest to put on and remove from the vehicle due to the Tracker II towers’ push-botton operated quick realease mechanism.  By mounting just to the inside of the factory installed roof rails, we have made the overall appearance of the rack very sleek and integrated into the look of the vehicle.  One of the managers at Prestige Audi in Lakewood, CO has this exact sytem on his very own A4 Avant.

Thule and Twin Turbos

Thule and Twin Turbos

The BMW 335Xi is one of the best all-around performers on the road.  The xDrive AWD system makes it an enthusiast’s favorite for ski trips and year round fun.  A unique feature of the BMW 3 series is its integrated roof rack mounts hidden under four small access panels in the roof .  Thule has developed a new foot pack to utilize these mounts for a very clean appearance.  The Thule 460R Podium Aero Fixpoint Foot is designed to work in conjunction with the Thule Podium Fit Kit 3028 to create a solid connection with your BMW’s factory mounting points.  Thule offers an aerodynamically shaped bar to span the width of the roof called the Thule RB47 47 Inch Rapid Load Bars.  These bars are made of gorgeous, light-weight aluminum that will never rust for years of reliable use.  Of course the system wouldn’t be complete without a set of Thule 544 4-pack Lock Cores to keep everything secured to your roof.  This system is very clean in appearance and makes very little noise if equipped with the highly recommended Thule 871XT Fairing.  The fairing will divert air over the rack bars to keep your ride quiet and comfortable.  With this rack in place, you can carry a wide variety of gear from skis and snowboards to a canoe.  With this roof rack, you can lend even more practicality to an already great car.  Visit us at Rackattack.com for store locations and more product information.

Porsche Cayman Ski Rack by Yakima

29 04 2009

porsche-cayman-w-lps-and-fat-cat6021We might be bragging a little when we say we can rack almost any car on the road.   We’re serious.  If you drive it, we have a rack for it.  Case in point; the Porsche Cayman we put a Yakima ski rack on at the end of last year.  This rack features quick-diconnect towers that mate with a base mounting kit applied in the same way a factory rack attaches to a Subaru Outback.  You can have your cake and eat it too.  With a rack that can go on and off the car in one minute, you keep your vehicle’s stock appearance and still carry massive amounts of gear.  The system pictured on the Cayman features the Yakima Landing Pad 6 as the base, the Yakima Control Tower, Yakima 48 inch Cross Bars which were cut to fit the car’s narrow roof, Yakima 6 Pack SKS cores, a Yakima 32 Inch Fairing and the Yakima FatCat 4.  The system will carry up to four pair of skis or couple snowboards and a pair of skis.  The fairng keeps this rack very quiet. It can be configured to carry skis, bikes or a small cargo box.  This system can add a lot of practicality to a compact sports car.  The next time the wife puts the brakes on the purchase of a fine sporting automobile, show her this article.  At Rack Attack, we are here to help make your car do more for you.

2009 Ford Edge Panoramic Vista Roof and Custom Roof Rack

14 03 2009

Ford Edge Vista Roof With RackThe “The Edge’s Vista Roof™ opens all the way back over the rear compartment, so the people who are sitting in the rear of the vehicle can actually look up and see the sky above them,” said Doyle Letson, Edge’s chief designer.

The class-exclusive panoramic glass roof allows nine square feet of natural light to flood the vehicle cabin. The look and feel of the roof was inspired by interior décor cues – specifically, the expansive windows of the popular urban loft condo, according to Earl Lucas, interior design manager for Edge.

“When you sit in this vehicle and look up and see the sky all around you, you just want to take it out for a drive and chase the horizon,” said Peter Horbury, Ford’s executive director of Design, North America.

This is a great option for those who want  to chase the horizon, but Ford does not make it with an option for a roof rack.  That is where Rack Attack comes in.  We are able to Rack the Edge with the vista roof.  With the custom installation we install Thule Track with Flare-Nuts, these are very similar to factory tracks that you see on quite a few new vehicles.  The advantage of the tracks is that you get the ability to move your towers and crossbars anywhere in those tracks.  You can spread them out wide for a ladder or a canoe, or move them closer together for skis and bikes.  Another advantage of tracks is that the weight is distributed across the length of the tracks, rather than in one small mount, giving you a weight capacity of 165 lbs.   Once the tracks are installed we went with the Thule 430R Rapid Tracker Foot Pack and Thule RB53 53 Inch Rapid Load Bars.  The RB set up uses aluminum crossbars, so advantages are that you never have to worry about the bars rusting down the line and still gives the vehicle a real nice look.  The Tracker towers are also quick release, giving the option of removing the towers and bars in under a minute, so pop the rack off when you don’t need it.  Once the bars are installed any rack accessory is available to carry any load from Cargo boxes, baskets, bikes, to boats and even lumber.  On this particular set up we have only added the Thule 91726 Universal Pull Top 6 Ski/Board Rack, this is a slide out ski/board rack that gives you the ability to load and unload your skis and boards out on the side of the vehicle rather than having to climb up onto your roof.   This custom option can be installed on this Ford Edge or almost any other vehicle in under 2 hours by our installation techs.   Check us out at Rackattack.com.
